Do you know what I like about starting a new year? You get a chance to wipe the proverbial slate clean and start over again. Old bad habits can be replaced, new habits formed, and it’s even a time to review and refresh some of the things ventriloquial that you have been doing.
Now is a good time to take a good look at your act or show and see where you can freshen it up with new material or a new character. It’s also the time to refurbish equipment that you worked with this last year and repair everything. If it needs painting..paint it! If it’s something to be fixed..fix it! If it’s something you can’t fix or freshen up yourself, look for a good craftsman who can do that for you.
Maybe it’s time to renew your commitment to learning more about the art of ventriloquism. If acting is a problem for you, seek out an acting coach. The same holds true to any other problem area you may have like lip control, writing comedy, or puppet / figure manipulation. Make being a better ventriloquist your passion. By all of us taking this approach to vent work we can advance and replenish our art. Only by doing this on a daily basis can we guarantee the future of what we all love so much.
