It is impossible to accurately imagine how your performance is seen through the eyes of an audience. Watching your reflection in a mirror gives a partial picture and is helpful. But watching a video recorded practice session is better and can be very enlightening.
Trick question. Moving eyes, open and close mouth, turning head – are all very useful. But there are very excellent and effective puppets being used, even professionally, that do not have moving eyes.
True. And there are times when the phrase, “Actions speak louder than words,” may also be true, even when spoken about a puppet.
Yes, we have actually met ventriloquists who are jealous of the fact that people consider the puppet the star of the show. Or, the puppet’s name is remembered while the ventriloquist’s name has been forgotten. Jealousy between ventriloquist and puppet is rare and we hope it never happens to you – we know who is the real star of YOUR show!
Comedy features are wonderful! In fact, they are so much fun we want to show them off. Caution: Do not overdo comedy effects as it will diminish their impact and effectiveness.
